A few ideas for the incoming center

Postby Serret » 4. Apr 2013, 23:23

I believe the incoming center as it stands now is untapped potential.

Here's a few features that could be supported on the incoming center:

  • Chat clients such as: MSN, Skype, Google Chat, XMPP, IRC.
  • Application notification updates (i know it sounds a bit counter productive to have app notifications inside an app but the powergrid does go fullscreen...)
  • Twitch.tv \ own3d chat support
  • Download (several applications) status and completion list
  • Dropbox notifications
  • Forum updates\pms
  • Ventrilo and Mumble support
  • Steam chat support?

Forum Updates could be made with an RSS Feed but replies to a topic could be harder since not every forum is the same.
Maybe something like Tapatalk could help but I don't think that it would be easy to integrate...

I especially agree with the Steam and Dropbox ones, extremely useful.

Also IRC support could be great and not too hard to handle.

I agree IRC is a simple format to implement in almost anything since there isn't any advanced programming involved in how it operates.

Yea there is some great ideas in this, while skype works for chat messages that much i know, but might be nice if on IM based stuff it condensed by who sent it, that way you dont lose messages under a flood of someones comments/IMs, i dont know i think that would be useful. but other than that working with more IM/voice clients would be good

Yepp, that is a bunch of good ideas for additional features. We'll keep them in mind ;)

I joined the forums specifically to ask for steam integration in the incoming center. Steam chat and steam group chat are supported through steam-kit or whatever they call it. I've heard from other developers that they update it frequently which makes it a pain to integrate. Because of that there are very few apps supporting steam features. I don't know anything about the roccat dev team but hopefully this is something you could find the time to maintain.

after having read this post I also think dropbox notifications would be useful because our group has a dropbox account. I didn't really think about it before now. :D
